​Singapore Press Club members are warmly invited to this screening and welcome reception held in conjunction with the Asian American Journalists Association's Asia Chapter (AAJA-Asia)'s annual New.Now.Next Media conference​ (N3Con) taking place in Singapore on 23-25 May 2024. During the conference, AAJA-Asia will host a panel session on Climate Reporting on Friday 24 May, and a panel on News Documentary Storytelling on 25 May, featuring South Korean Documentary Director, Danny Kim.

As a curtainraiser to these two panels, the Singapore Press Club and AAJA-Asia are screening the award-winning documentary <Zero Waste> by the film's director Danny Kim for conference delegates, Singapore Press Club members and invited guests. This screening is made possible by the generous support of the Embassy of The Republic of Korea and CLA Global TS.

Synopsis:

As the world continues to come face to face with the consequences of decades of environmental degradation, Danny Kim's documentary <Zero Waste> explores the ways that five individuals in South Korea have taken it upon themselves to create solutions to the country's plastic waste problems, which has been exasperated by the global pandemic, and whether their efforts can be enough to make up for decades of neglect. Both sobering and uplifting, <Zero Waste> paints a portrait of both the magnitude of the problem, and the perseverance of those people willing to address them.

About the Director | Danny Kim

Born in 1986, Danny pursued a degree in radio, TV and film at the University of Wisconsin and later graduated with an MFA in Documentary Arts from Duke University.

As the founder of Docu+, a global impact film studio, the team is actively engaged in discovering and producing documentary storytelling with an emphasis on social value.
